Using Windows CE and Pocket PC Devices (Windows)

(Supported Windows CE devices include palm-sized PC, Pocket PC, and clamshell-style handheld computers)

Gospelink 2001’s PocketLibrary includes fifty books that have been preformatted for your Windows CE handheld computer. In addition, you can use Gospelink 2001 to copy text selections, quotations, and even talks written with Composer to your Windows CE device.

INSTALLING A READER PROGRAM

If you need help installing a reader program, consult the documentation for your handheld computer or get technical support from the company that makes it. Once the device is connected:

  1. Insert the Gospelink 2001 Installation Disc, printed side up, into your computer’s CD-ROM drive and close the drive.

  2. Double-click the My Computer icon on your Windows desktop.
  3. Find your CD-ROM drive (usually D or E) and click it with the right mouse button.
  4. On the popup menu, click Explore. A Windows Explorer window will be displayed, showing your CD-ROM drive and its subfolders.
  5. Find the Pocket folder on the left and click the plus sign (+) next to it.
  6. Find the Readers folder and click it.

On the right side of the Explorer window, you’ll see a list of the following files:

clamshel.exe is for all Windows CE clamshell devices, which resemble a miniature laptop computer.
wince201.exe is for all Windows CE devices that run Windows CE version 2.01 and resemble a PalmPilot.
wince211.exe is for CE devices that run Windows CE version 2.11 and look like a PalmPilot.
PocketPC.exe is for devices running the Pocket PC operating system.

System icon on your device. This is found either in the Control Panel or on the Start menu under Settings. The necessary information is found under the System tab.

Once you’ve figured out which operating system your device uses, you’re ready to install a reader:

  1. Be sure your handheld computer is connected to your PC.
  2. Find the reader for your device and double-click it. (For example, if your handheld computer looks like a PalmPilot and runs Windows CE version 2.11, you’d double-click wince211.exe.) This will bring up the installation program for the reader.
  3. Follow the on-screen installation instructions, making sure there are no error messages on the handheld computer or on your PC.
  4. Once the reader has been successfully installed, you’re ready to copy books or text selections from Gospelink 2001 to your handheld computer.

INSTALLING BOOKS ON YOUR HANDHELD COMPUTER

Bring up the Titles Manager:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Programs.
  3. Click EZ Reader.
  4. Click Manage Titles.

This window will be displayed:

Be sure your Gospelink 2001 Installation Disc is in the CD-ROM drive. Then click the Browse button.

If you want to install books, scroll down to the Program Files folder and click the plus sign (+) to its left. A list of folders will drop down; click the plus sign (+) next to the GospeLink 2001 folder. Click the PocketLibrary folder and then click OK.

The Manage Titles window will again query your device and list the titles found in the PocketLibrary folder and on your device, if there are any. Now you can choose the titles you want to install by clicking on them and then clicking the right arrow at the top of the Manage Titles window to send them to your handheld computer.

If you’d like to select more than one title at a time, you can hold the Control key while you click each of the titles you wish to install; then click the right arrow to send them all over.

Be sure you have enough space on your handheld computer for all of the books you want to install. Once the books have been copied, disconnect your handheld computer and tap Start, then Programs, and then EZ Reader to make sure all of the titles were copied.

Copying Selections to Your Handheld Computer

There are two different ways to copy text from Gospelink 2001 to your handheld computer. The first is the same way you copy information to Composer:

  1. Select the text you want to copy.
  2. Click Copy.
  3. Click Copy to Handheld Computer.

The following screen will appear:

The Document Title box will display the chapter title for the document from which you are copying. In the File Name section, enter a name for your document. Then click OK. Once you’ve named and saved your document, it’s ready to be copied to your handheld computer:

  1. Open the Manage Titles window again.
  2. Click the Browse button.
  3. Find the My Gospelink Documents folder and click it with the left mouse button.
  4. Click OK.

You should now see your document listed. You can copy it to your handheld computer in the same way you copied books. Because of license restrictions, the largest amount of text you can copy to a handheld computer is 64K.

Copying information from Composer

You can also use Composer to copy information to your handheld computer:

  1. Write and format your talk, lesson, or other document in Composer.
  2. Click the Edit menu.
  3. Click Send to Handheld Computer.
  4. The same Copy to Handheld Computer window will be displayed. Follow the instructions above to save the document to your handheld computer.
