Using a Palm OS Device (Windows)

Gospelink 2001’s PocketLibrary includes fifty books that have been preformatted for your Palm OS handheld computer. In addition, Gospelink 2001 has the ability to copy text selections, quotations, and even talks written with Composer to your Palm device.

INSTALLING THE READER

To install the Palm reader:
  1. Put the Gospelink 2001 Installation Disc, printed side up, into your CD-ROM drive and close the drive.
  2. Place your Palm computer in its hotsync cradle.
  3. Open your Palm Install Tool by clicking the Start button, then Programs, then Palm Desktop. (If your Palm device comes from Franklin, consult Franklin’s documentation.)
  4. You’ll see the following screen:

  5. Click the Add button. The following screen will be displayed:
  6. Click the down arrow at the right of the Look in box and choose your CD-ROM drive (usually your D or E drive).
  7. Double-click the Pocket folder.
  8. Double-click the Reader folder.
  9. Double-click Reader6, which will add it to the list of items to be installed on your Palm.

INSTALLING BOOKS

At this point, you can also install preformatted books from Gospelink 2001’s PocketLibrary. To do so:

  1. Click Add.
  2. Click the down arrow at the right of the Look in box and choose the C drive.
  3. Double-click the Program Files folder.
  4. Double-click the GospeLink 2001 folder.
  5. Double-click the PocketLibrary folder. You’ll see a list of the preformatted books that you can install on your Palm device.
  6. Choose the book you want to install by double-clicking it.

To install more than one book, repeat the process by clicking Add and selecting another book. Be sure your Palm device has enough space to hold all of the books you’ve selected.

After you’ve selected all the titles you want to install, click Done. The program will tell you to hotsync your Palm device, which you can do by pushing the button on the Palm device’s cradle. After the hotsync is complete, turn on your Palm device, tap the Reader icon, and make sure all the titles are listed. If they are, you’ve completed the installation successfully.

Copying Selections from Gospelink 2001 to your Palm Device

There are two different ways to copy text from Gospelink 2001 to your Palm device. The first is the same way you copy information to Composer:

  1. Select the text you want to copy.
  2. Click Copy.
  3. Click Copy to Handheld Computer.

The following screen will appear:

The chapter title for the document from which you are copying will appear in the Document Title box. In the File Name box, enter a name for your document. Then click OK.

Once you’ve named your Palm document and saved it, it’s ready to be put on your Palm device. To do so:

  1. Open the install tool again.
  2. Click the Add button.
  3. Click the down arrow next to Look In.
  4. Choose your C drive, or the drive where Gospelink 2001 is installed.
  5. Double-click the My Gospelink Documents folder. You should now see your document listed.
  6. Double-click the document to add it to the list of items to be installed to your Palm device.
  7. Click Done and hotsync your Palm device once again.

After the hotsync is complete, turn on your Palm device, open the Reader, and make sure your document is listed. Because of license restrictions, the largest amount of text you can copy to a handheld computer is 64K.

Copying information from Composer

You can also use Composer to copy information to your Palm device:

  1. Write and format your talk, lesson, or other document in Composer.
  2. Click the Edit menu.
  3. Click Send to Handheld Computer.
  4. The same Copy to Handheld Computer screen will be displayed. Follow the instructions above to save the document to your Palm device.
